A special thanks to our friends at Aqua Adventure for inviting us! As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s been a seriously crazy autumn for the Lampleys! And it’s been a while since we vacayed together, all of us. San Juan is one of those places that makes me want to dance, like it’s familiar and brand new at the same time – perfect for some reconnecting.
Where to Stay
For this trip, we decided on Isla Verde, and stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Juan Hotel & Casino. It’s five minutes from the airport and right near everything we wanted to see. We didn’t take advantage of the casino this time, and I do feel a strong need to return just for the spa… a Borinquen River Rock Massage sounds like heaven, no? The beach was only a few blocks away, and the hotel has a fabulously lush tropical lagoon pool, complete with waterfall and a separate pool for the kiddos. SPF level up: max sun time achieved.
How to Play
We had a blast hanging around Condado Beach, which was just a short drive from the hotel and is so, so beautiful! My guys picked out matching man bracelets at the market (I was strictly forbidden from participating) and had as much fun chasing pigeons as they did clowning around with the lovely, friendly locals. Their pigeon game was waaaaay better than mine. I TRIED.
We also spent some time at the Caribe Hilton, where we had the absolute best time snorkeling with Aqua Adventure. The guys wanted to meander in the water and do their own thing, but if you’re serious about scuba or even just guided snorkeling, the folks at Aqua have you covered. Also, ask them about SNUBA. I had no idea that’s the name for underwater bell helmet dives… no certifications needed! It looks otherworldly.
Back at Caribe, we had our own prime spot near the waves and managed to squeeze in a few first downs. Bet you didn’t know ocean football was a Thing! And we even ordered pizza and drinks right on the beach – the attendants were amazing (and so sweet to the boys). We stayed until sunset and none of us wanted to leave.
What to Eat (and Drink!)
Vacation noms went far beyond pizza, and Condado Beach is also the place to be for some seriously good eats. We loved the fresh local ingredients as much as the chic vibe and beachfront views at Oceano, and Serafina is Italian classics with a San Juan twist… soooo good. We also sampled sweets at Pannes bakery and refreshing ices from Señor Paleta (OK, we went back a few times… cheers to cooling off, right?) And it wouldn’t be San Juan without an OG piña colada from Barrachina – yes, they have a virgin option for the kiddos.
It was a perfect getaway for all. I’m thinking we’ll stay at the Caribe Hilton next time – and I promise to report back when we do, my lovelies!
